REOCUPACIÓN is a video installation based on the problem of unemployment and organised according to two main ideas: on one side, the knowledge of the loss of the job and on the other side, the actions, movements and gestures that characterise the job identity.
Thus, a polyphonic discourse will be made in which each former worker will present, act and recall their activity (gestures and actions) and also how their lives changed when they stopped doing it.
In Argentina a job has become a valuable and strange asset, a privilege. Those jobs lost due to the new global distribution of the economic roles are not replaced and instead of being a burden on the Argentine people, the job has become an object of desire and an ambition.
Besides being the most important human being's commercial transaction, the one that allows him to live, grow up and entertain, the employment is an important agent in the formation of the personal identity and in the role each individual plays in the society where he belongs.
Unemployment has a very strong effect of loss of identification that alters dignity and the physical and psychical welfare of the human being.
Losing the job means losing in some way the parameters that hold us, the safety, the identity, the own history. Unemployment is synonym of abandonment.
The gestures, the habits of the man at work are tending to their progressive disintegration. The movements and corporal postures that characterised the identity of a job and are stopped being done when losing it, are disappearing.
REOCUPACIÓN puts forward an open reflection on the unemployment question, and the rescue of the memory of actions that gradually disappear from our context.
The employment gives identity to a man. Its loss, for any reason different from his will, means the individual's disorientation regarding his social role.
One of the essential points in these meetings is the action issue. Gestures, habits, the recurrence, those corporal movements or postures that characterise the identity of a job.
It is important to register the actions, the movements that are repeated, the minimum movements. The actions that disappear with the loss of the job. To rescue the memory, the jobs, the actions that are about to disappear.
Mosaic of a post-industrial society: It is a work about the lack of employment in Argentina.
